Youth Pastor Spotlight: Kevin Reed

Kevin Reed is the featured Youth Pastor for May 2012. Check out how his youth group is preparing for their 2012 Summer CityConnexx Mission trip below:

"Our teens at the Marysville Nazarene Church in Marysville, Ohio are always looking for ways to reach out to our community and to our world. We love serving others and jump when an opportunity presents itself. This summer our youth group will be going to Chicago the first week of June to help serve there. I already know this will be a great opportunity for us to reach out and also grow and be stretched in our faith.

We are working with the Chatham Fields Lutheran Church and Pastor Gee while there and after hearing the needs Pastor Gee had, we have been trying to think of additional ways we could help. A big need they have is for supplies to paint as well as items for the diaper ministry they have. One day recently, an employee of Home Depot that attends our church (her daughter is going to Chicago with us), said she had gift cards for non-profit agencies and they would expire very soon and felt prompted to give them to us. On the day they were to expire, I rushed out to Home Depot and was able to get a lot of the painting supplies we needed.

That is awesome in and of itself, but just a week before, our mission committee at our church announced that it had a surplus of funds and was trying to think of ways to use extra money. Of course, this prompted me to mention the need in Chicago, so they donated $1,000 to use for supplies/the diaper ministry while we are in Chicago. Again, all of this has occurred just over the past few days and after I had been praying that God would show us ways to even better serve the people we would be working with in Chicago. God truly does answer prayers, and we are very excited to be a part of God's work in Chicago in just over a month."
