Ask A Quick Question
Prayer Walking on Mission Trips
Mon, 13 Feb 2012
Have you ever been on a prayer walk? How about one in an at-risk neighborhood? It's a whole different experience as God opens your eyes and those of your students to see the city as God sees it. I wish there would have been a TV camera to show us what Jesus saw when he looked out over the city "and wept".
One key part of beginning any CityConnexx mission trip is to go on a prayer walk.
Here's one tool we've used over the years to help your group "seek God's heart for the city".
We encourage all groups to do prayer walks around the church and community you are serving. These tools provide ideas and devotions to do that. Some groups take them on their walks and just stop at certain spots to read a short passage and then pray. Very powerful stuff and often times those passing by join in or ask questions. It's another opportunity to share what you're doing and why you have come all this way to volunteer and serve. The one I like is "Prayer-Walking: Praying On Site with Insight". And you can start practicing this spiritual discipline in your own community before you come.
My friend Steve Hawthorne started this simple, easy to use resource and it has grown over the years so you have a bunch of options that fit your group. I'm especially excited to download the new iTunes app on Feb 13 as a daily devotional guide to be intentional in praying for the City.
WayMakers has prepared several tools to help equip the local church and ministry leader. Our website has proven ideas for using Seek God for the City 2012 to help you encourage people to pray with life-giving joy and hope. Coming soon! To pray as you go, get the app. The Seek God for the City 2012 app is coming February 13 (pending iTunes approval). Just $0.99 cents. www.waymakers.org/app.html.
