Homelessness. Education. Crime.

Homelessness in this historic, urban city is on the rise. It is estimated that on any given day in Philadelphia, there are roughly 4,000 persons who are homeless. It is so important to understand the causes and factors that contribute to homelessness- and we encourage each Group Leader to educate their group before coming on a CityConnexx Mission trip through Resources that we provide or recommend.

Education is a dramatic struggle for the youth of Philadelphia: 80% of high school drop-outs in Philadelphia are considered at-risk in 8th or 9th grade. Half of Philly's 9th graders will NOT graduate from high school. Crime is another problem that is ripping apart this great American city. Similar to most populated US cities, the crime rate fluctuates and is currently on the decline. However, in 2005 Philly was ranked the sixth most dangerous city (Morgan Quitno- crime rates by population).
