Colorado Springs, CO Overview
Located just east of the Southern Rocky Mountains, Colorado Springs is the 2nd most populous city in Colorado. It is a wide and sprawling city with many different landscapes, depending on where one looks. The population is largely an active one with the mountains close and trails to hike and rocks to climb. The city is aslo a springboard for a large amount of internationally focused ministries such as Compassion, YWAM, Mission Mobilization International, and the Joshua Project. Focus on the Family’s headquarters are also located in Colorado Springs, indicating a strong christian presence.
Colorado Springs, CO Attractions
Pikes Peak, one of the most famous American mountains, towers over
Colorado Springs and welcomes adventurers into the beautiful National
Forests and parks beyond it to the West. Take the tram, drive, bike, or
hike to the top! Garden of the Gods is a popular and beautiful (and
free!) park to hike around and tour. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Glen
Erie Castle, US Airforce Academy, and US Olympic Training Center are
also intriguing places to visit.
Ministry Focus
Colorado Springs is like many cities (in that this presence is not what
is echoed in every neighborhood) - news of gangs and violence are
reported frequently and there has been a significant drop in the number
of jobs leading to more need for food banks, help with housing, and
desperate hunger for hope. There are quite a few locally focused
ministries like the Mission Medical Clinic, Care and Share Food-bank,
Hoops of Hope basketball ministry, Springs Rescue Mission, Library of
Hope for inmates, their families, and at-risk youth, and many summer
camps and conference or retreat centers in the nearby mountains that are
always looking for fresh minds and hands to help serve the Springs
community or work on much-needed projects.
