Books say mission statements should be catchy, memorable, and self-explanatory. The problem with catchy mission statements is they don’t necessarily capture complex issues. That said, here is CityConnexx’ mission:
To facilitate Christian community transformation through short-term connections.
To facilitate: to help forward a cause
Christian (adjective): displaying characteristics consistent with the life and teaching of Christ.
community: a group of people living in a particular space (community could refer to the people or the space)
transformation: from transform – to make a dramatic change in the form, appearance or character – hence transformation having undergone a dramatic change in form, appearance and character.
through: by means of
Short-term: occurring in a brief period of time
connections: a relationship in which a person is linked with something/someone else.
We live in a nation that separates rich, middle class, and poor. Some space and places in our nation deal with a chronic lack of resources. Often this results in suffering. Short-term connections are a means of crossing barriers. Further, short-term connections are a means of spiritual and social transformation. As persons identify and pursue actions that invite justice, peace, and community well-being they fulfill Jesus’ command to love our neighbor. Neighbor-love transforms both our neighbor and ourselves.
